Runaway Rabbit is the result of a notion of two stay-at-home moms from Kentucky that evolved into a plan, then into a company that has taken on a life of its own! Gayla Warner and Laura Jones were in search of the perfect pair of bunny slippers that reminded each of them of a long lost pair from younger days. They were not to be found, so these enterprising moms set out to create this well-known, but curiously elusive critter.
Today they are making tracks (bunny tracks) to get this unique brand of comfort and fun out to the rest of the waiting world. They are confident that wearers will love them not only for the comfort they bring to the feet, but also for the joy they bring to the heart!
Besides…how much fun is it just to share a little wink at life every day when you wear your bunnies?
What is even more exciting than knowing that the world is once again populated with bunny slippers for all? It’s the fact that the Runaway Rabbit creators are already hard at work bringing more comfort, fun and luxury your way. You are sure to be delighted with what they have in store for the coming months!
Gayla Warner is an Illinois native, and is the first to declare that as a transplant to the south, she “got here as quickly as I could!” And it’s a good thing she did…or the world might still be without bunny slippers!
A daydream believer AND Homecoming Queen, she proved to be more than just another pretty face and graduated Summa Cum Laude from Northeast Missouri University. During her merchandising career that followed, Gayla received a hands-on education in global commerce with a Fortune 500 company. In developing, sourcing and importing product, she dealt with everything from packaging to customs regulations and freight costs to quota requirements, not to mention heady international travel.
Gayla was in her element; how could life get any better? She eloped [gasp!] with Robert, who immediately set out to make all her dreams come true. Things happened quickly then…in just a few years she bade farewell to her beloved career to begin a new one as a full time mommy to their two sons. She concentrated on raising up her little family right and redirected all that corporate know-how to community involvement and volunteer work.
Now, after a ten year hiatus, Gayla has found the excitement and challenges of the business world as fascinating as ever. She is having so much fun with Laura at Runaway Rabbit Creations that she simply refuses to call it work!
Laura Jones grew up in Scottsville, Kentucky and graduated with honors from Western KY University in Bowling Green Green with a B.S. in Psychology, then completed a Master of Art in Education in 1991. True to her nature and resolve, she promptly presented herself to a local social service agency and offered them one heck of a deal. “Let me try this position for two weeks; don’t pay me a dime. If you like me and the work I do, then we'll work out the details.” That sealed the deal and she was hired on the spot!
Laura went to work for the Adolescent Counseling Agency in Bowling Green and set out to build a brand new grant-funded program, which she developed into a strong revenue producing project. Laura became inspired to make a difference while also learning the inherent value and worth of all people, a trait that would later be an integral part in the creation of Runaway Rabbit.
While pursuing her idealistic dreams and attempting to save her corner of the universe, Laura received her greatest blessing to date. She met and married Bennie Jones, the man of her dreams. They soon welcomed the first of two boys and determined that the family would be best served with Laura working at home. So…Laura “went to the house,” as they say here in some parts of Kentucky where she has been raising her sons with her husband and helping him build his thriving construction and real estate business.
